SB 12.3.36

patiṁ tyakṣyanti nirdravyaṁ
 bhṛtyā apy akhilottamam
bhṛtyaṁ vipannaṁ patayaḥ
 kaulaṁ gāś cāpayasvinīḥ
Word for word:
patim — a master; tyakṣyanti — they will abandon; nirdravyam — lacking property; bhṛtyāḥ — servants; api — even; akhila-uttamam — most excellent in personal qualities; bhṛtyam — a servant; vipannam — incapacitated; patayaḥ — masters; kaulam — belonging to the family for generations; gāḥ — cows; ca — and; apayasvinīḥ — which have stopped giving milk.
Translation:
Servants will abandon a master who has lost his wealth, even if that master is a saintly person of exemplary character. Masters will abandon an incapacitated servant, even if that servant has been in the family for generations. Cows will be abandoned or killed when they stop giving milk.
Purport:
In India, the cow is considered sacred not because Indian people are primitive worshipers of mythological totems but because Hindus intelligently understand that the cow is a mother. As children, nearly all of us were nourished with cow’s milk, and therefore the cow is one of our mothers. Certainly one’s mother is sacred, and therefore we should not kill the sacred cow.

Srimad Bhagavat 12.2.41

kṛmi-viḍ-bhasma-saṁjñānte
 rāja-nāmno ’pi yasya ca
bhūta-dhruk tat-kṛte svārthaṁ
 kiṁ veda nirayo yataḥ
Word for word:
kṛmi — of worms; viṭ — stool; bhasma — and ashes; saṁjñā — the designation; ante — in the end; rāja-nāmnaḥ — going by the name “king”; api — even though; yasya — of which (body); ca — and; bhūta — of living beings; dhruk — an enemy; tat-kṛte — for the sake of that body; sva-artham — his own best interest; kim — what; veda — does he know; nirayaḥ — punishment in hell; yataḥ — because of which.
Translation:
Even though a person’s body may now have the designation “king,” in the end its name will be “worms,” “stool” or “ashes.” What can a person who injures other living beings for the sake of his body know about his own self-interest, since his activities are simply leading him to hell?

Have mercy upon others if you desire mercy. All the deeds are accounted says Ved and Puran. When you show no mercy to other beings and perform violence only shall lower your deeds. You will be a lower being as a karma. The fruit of karma is firm(there is no escape) like the lightening and thunder.

Remember what the scriptures say, the "being" in big elephant or in tiny animal, in Meru mountain or in human, it is the same one.

The order of rule of law of the Lord is exist everywhere(grains, water, air, living beings). Everything is called Brahm. Knowing this people indulge in violence and killing and finally tie themselves with all sorts of actions(karma). The karma is a bondage once it is created one must experience the fruit of it!

To feed one life you take so many lives and you show no mercy doing such an act. And later you offer donations, such religious activity do you think will salvage your life(save you from suffering out of your karma).

While killing animals(performing violence ) they hardly think but all these create bondage out of karma and but one knows or not the Yamraj is adept in keeping all the account of your deeds.
